Assignment Description: | Come teach English/Language Arts in a Christian school in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Come for one year or make this your next career if you have at least one year of teaching experience. Ukarumpa International School has 150 students from 16 different countries. We teach an international curriculum in years 6 – 12 including the AP English Literature course. Our students are interested in their studies and work hard. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with and learn from Christian faculty from around the world. It is amazing to realize that while you teach what you love, English, the Bible is being translated into the heart languages of Papua New Guinea by the parents of your students. If you are a child-centered teacher you will love it here. Job Comment: | Instructs students in subject matter, utilizing education and experience in the specific field. Lectures, demonstrates and creatively illustrates subject matter to class, using approved text books and study guides. Prepares, administers and corrects tests in accordance with school standards and procedures. Develops and maintains student records of attendance and grades as required by the school. Maintains order in the classroom and school grounds. Understands and empathizes with high school age youth facing the adjustments of cross-cultural situations, and provides supportive activities and mature Christian counsel. Encourages understanding of cultural differences. Communicates effectively to a multi-national class, sensitive to illustrations and figures of speech that are culturally bound. Able to help students learn the spelling of their home country. Prepares quarterly student progress reports. Discusses pupils' academic and behavioral performance with parents, recommending action when necessary, and providing guidance in choice of elective subjects. Assists in pupil extra-curricular activities, inspiring and encouraging the physical, mental and spiritual development of pupils to greatest potential. May teach a second or third subject in some locations, such as Literature, Art or Music. May assist the entity in other additional areas of activity not necessarily associated with the school during vacations, etc. |

Housing: | New teachers rent a house on the Ukarumpa centre. This might be a house that belongs to a family who are out of the country at that time, or a house owned by the centre. The school, the store, the clinic and other departments are within walking distance of the houses. |
Job Advertisement: | Come and teach at the WASC accredited Ukarumpa International School – Our school is divided into two campuses located on the Ukarumpa Centre in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. The Primary Campus serves approximately 150 children from preschool to grade 5. The Secondary Campus serves approximately 120 students in grades 6-12. We have good resources, supportive parents and a committed and professional teaching staff. Face the challenge of teaching children from as many as 14 different counties in English whilst at the same time integrating a Christian world-view into your lessons.
