Why We Must Be Engaged in Sending, Mobilizing, Praying, Welcoming, and Going
In a world where the gospel is still unknown to billions, the call to missions is not optional—it’s essential. As Global Christians, we are invited and commanded to participate in God’s redemptive plan through various missional activities: Sending, Mobilizing, Praying, Welcoming, and Going. Each of these activities reflects a heart aligned with God’s mission and cultivates spiritual maturity, discipline, and deeper faith.
- These Activities Build Our Faith and Discipline
Engaging in missions isn’t just about fulfilling a task—it’s about being transformed in the process. Whether it’s sending a missionary, mobilizing others, interceding in prayer, welcoming the stranger, or crossing cultures— each act of obedience challenges our comfort zones and teaches us to rely on God’s strength.
“Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness.” 1 Timothy 4:7 (NASB)
Praying regularly for the nations requires intentional time and focus. Going to the unreached demands courage and sacrifice. Sending missionaries entails giving generously. Each activity disciplines our hearts, aligning our will with the heart of God.
- These Are Signs of Spiritual Maturity
Spiritual maturity isn’t measured by knowledge alone, but by active participation in the work of the Kingdom. Spiritually mature believers don’t just know about the Great Commission – they live it out.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” James 1:22 (ESV)
Mature Christians understand that faith without works is dead (James 2:17). Whether we are the ones who go or the ones who support, maturity means we recognize our role in God’s mission and engage wholeheartedly.
- These Practices Help Us Model Christ
Jesus was the ultimate missionary—He was sent (John 3:17), welcomed the outcast (Luke 15), mobilized disciples (Matthew 28:19–20), prayed fervently (Luke 5:16), and went to the lost (Luke 19:10). To follow Christ is to reflect His heart for the nations.
“As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” John 20:21 (ESV)
When we engage in these missional activities, we are not merely helping others—we are becoming more like Jesus.
- Every Christian Has a Role to Play
Not all are called to leave their homeland and go to the ends of the earth. But all are called to participate. In Romans 12:13, Paul instructs believers to “contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.” These contributions come in many forms—praying for missionaries, sending financial support, welcoming international students, or mobilizing others to serve.
“How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” Romans 10:14 (ESV)
And how will someone preach unless they are sent? Whether we’re on the frontlines or working behind the scenes, our participation is vital.
- It’s a Lifestyle; Not a Season
There will be seasons when we’re more actively involved in one role than another. But the call to be missional is not seasonal—it’s a lifestyle. As we grow in Christ, we should seek ways to integrate Sending, Mobilizing, Praying, Welcoming, and Going into our daily rhythms.
“Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV)
That might mean inviting a refugee family to dinner, organizing a prayer night for unreached people groups, or mentoring someone who feels called to serve cross-culturally. It’s not about how much time we give—it’s about faithfully offering what we can in each season.
Conclusion: Your Participation Matters
The global mission of God cannot be fulfilled by a few—it requires the whole Body of Christ. Whether you are participating as a goer, sender, mobilizer, intercessor, or welcomer, your participation matters deeply. These practices grow us spiritually, teach us to depend on God, and make us more like Jesus.
Let’s not just talk about missions—let’s live it. Let’s be Global Christians who engage in Sending, Mobilizing, Praying, Welcoming, and Going as acts of worship and obedience, for the glory of God and the joy of all peoples.
“Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples!” — Psalm 96:3 (ESV)
