Use Your Career for Missions

Reality check: there are abundant ways to serve for mission agencies and organizations, all over the globe.

You feel God’s call on your heart to be a missionary, to make His name known the nations. Yet you hesitate: I’ve been working one career for so long. I’m not a pastor. I’ve never gone to Bible school or done missions before.

Reality check: there are abundant ways to serve for mission agencies and organizations, all over the globe. Working in missions can take on many forms these days, and Christians everywhere use their God-given gifts, passions and life-experiences to reach the lost.  Organizations are searching for those who can fill unique positions.

So what can you do as a missionary?

Well, for starters, here are just 30 ideas:

  1. Teaching
  2. Tutoring English or another language
  3. Accounting
  4. Church planting
  5. IT/Computer science
  6. Working with children
  7. Business mentoring
  8. Construction
  9. Building friendships
  10. Agriculture
  11. Medicine
  12. Shipping and logistics
  13. Communication and media
  14. Personal evangelism
  15. Music
  16. Strategic planning
  17. Hosting a guest house
  18. Media development and graphic design
  19. Demographic studies
  20. Training leaders
  21. Befriending students
  22. Maintenance
  23. Office management
  24. Prayer coordination
  25. Fundraising
  26. Field research
  27. Translation assistance
  28. Relief work
  29. Mobilization
  30. Recruitment

What’s more: there are short-term, long-term, abroad, at-home, volunteer, and part-time opportunities. The point is, if Jesus has called you into missions, He will open the doors and make a way for you to serve, no matter what that looks like.

“Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:24
