| Assignment Description: | Summary At Dakar Academy, qualified teachers invest their time and talents to design engaging lessons that bring content to life. We are looking for an experienced French teacher to plan, organize and implement an approved curriculum. Our ideal candidate will utilize differentiated instruction and varied teaching techniques to create an environment of student-centered learning that follows a North American curriculum. S/he should be passionate about the subject they teach, their students, and their job. The goal: for students to understand—not only know—what they are being taught, as they set their feet on the path to lifelong learning. Established in 1961 as Dakar’s first international school and a Christian educational institution, Dakar Academy’s vision is to produce well-rounded students, prepared for higher-level studies, whose Christian worldview permeates all aspects of their lives. To that end, we strive to care for each child’s academic, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. Objectives of this Role Foster interdisciplinary learning, teaching, and instruction according to North American curriculum standards, and the educational needs and abilities of individuals and groups of students Integrate Christian worldview into course activities and assessments Create a classroom culture that is welcoming and positive Plan, prepare, and teach lessons, promoting the general progress and well-being of individual students and groups of students Incorporate the Understanding by Design framework in unit and lesson planning Communicate, cooperate, and consult with school staff, and parents/guardians in the students’ best interest Build knowledge by participating in professional development seminars Daily and Monthly Responsibilities Utilize a wide variety of teaching methods to create differentiated opportunities for deep understanding for all learners Assess and evaluate student growth; creating action plans on class-wide, group-wide and individual basis in response to student data Assess, record, and report on development, progress, and behavior of students, issuing grades, progress reports, and report cards Collaborate with the school counselor, assistant principal, principal, ESL instructor, and special education instructor (as needed) in providing students with academic and social support. | Assignment Description: | High School students at Grace Christian Academy must complete a minimum of two years of study in a language other than English. There are currently three options for our students: Mandarin, Spanish and French. Only four students have requested French studies. We suspect that there is currently a lag of interest because the class has been taught by a part-time teacher, who has not had opportunities to interact with the high school students, outside of her very small classes. If someone is interested in a full-time position, which we prefer, such a full-time schedule can be created with a combination of subjects. Recent contributions from full-time, "specials" teachers, have been determined by the expertise of each and include classes in Bible, P.E., Music, Art, Math, and Language Arts. The most urgent need for us would be US History and Psychology. |

| Housing: | Grace Christian Academy provides rent-free housing for teachers who are hired from outside of Taiwan. Such housing is off campus but located within a 20-minute walk or short bike ride from the school. Single teachers are placed in 3–4-bedroom apartments with 2 bathrooms. Family housing is not shared. However, if one spouse is working for a company that provides housing, this benefit is not available. |
| Educating Children: | Grace Christian Academy provides tuition-free education at GCA for the teacher’s children who are currently in grades 1-12. There are no extraordinary fees for our students, including textbooks, building maintenance, development, music, or other fees often hidden within the fee structures at other schools. However, students in grade 12 must cover the graduation fee. GCA does not cover the educational fees at any other institution, including kindergarten, daycare, language studies, or extracurricular activities. |
