Moses was challenged by God to take on a new assignment in Exodus Chapter 3. It was a big assignment given by a big God. Moses objected, “Who am I, that I should go …” [Exodus 3:11] The Lord’s response was simple, “Certainly I will be with you…” [Exodus 3:12] That was intended to be enough for Moses, and is intended to be enough for you and me. This refrain is often repeated in scripture. For example:
- “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” [Joshua 1:5]
- “For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous.” [Psalm 1:6]
- “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” [Isaiah 43:2]
- And in Matthew 28:20, we read, “I am with you always, to the close of the age.”
Even at the very beginning, in the very first paragraph of the Bible, we read that “the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” [Gen 1:2] He is still hovering—paying attention to us in order to respond to our asking, seeking, and knocking, so our way might be opened. He is watching and measuring our faithfulness, expecting us to lay up treasures in Heaven, whether they be gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay or stubble. Imagine a God who loves you so much that he wants to be with you now, use you now, and spend eternity with you.
