Mobilization is Multiplication

My passion for mobilization ministry comes from being born again. I know that sounds cliché but allow me to explain. I had almost thirty years of life behind me before God redeemed me. I am well aware of what life without Christ looks and feels like. In contrast I have thirty years as a Christ follower. I know and have experienced the power of His Spirit in my life and the joy and hope that comes with being reborn. As Joni Mitchell sang, “I’ve looked at life from both sides now.” Somewhere in the midst of the former and the latter comes the desire to share my faith.

My life was transformed because someone saw what I lacked and took the time to share with me what I needed. I look back on that pivotal moment, that halfway point in my life, and realize the incredible value of what happened. Like the man who found a great treasure hidden in a field, then sold all he had to buy that field, my perspective changed, my world view changed, my desires changed. I found my identity through the One who created me, and it changed everything.

As a new believer, it was easy to tell others about what God was doing in my life. It seemed natural. It’s like I was given an abundant amount of medicine to beat my disease and had plenty left over to share with others who were suffering. As I shared my faith, it was exciting to see God adding to His Kingdom and transforming the lives of those who would believe. Years later, I found myself inviting others to be more intentional in sharing their faith; to reach out to those around them with Christ’s transforming love. Again, it seemed natural to encourage other believers this way. That’s when I realized I had stumbled onto the power of multiplication which, in many ways, is mobilization.

As a mobilizer, I discovered that raising awareness of the Great Commission and leading others to serve in the harvest field was just as exciting as sharing my faith. I eventually came to realize that it is equally biblical. Hebrews 10:24 is a powerful mobilization verse. The writer says, “Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds.” In Hebrews 10:25 the writer instructs believers not to forsake gathering together. There are many good reasons for believers to gather together. But the verse before that (Hebrews 10:24) tells us the reason we should gather together. So that we will “stimulate” one another, encourage one another, stir one another up. And for what? “Love and good deeds.” Who should we love more? Love God? Love fellow believers? Love the lost? Yes, to all three! What are “good deeds”? Reaching? Teaching? Sending? Yes again, to all three! That is what mobilizers do. They fan the flame of the great commission in others to “Go and make disciples of all nations.”

Imagine the countless numbers of people coming into the Kingdom through the powerful force of every believer living out Hebrews 10:24. Imagine that kind of multiplication! That is what a mobilizer sees and is driven by. God is raising up a Kingdom army, and mobilizers play a key role in His plan. You are a life that was changed because someone gave you what you needed. You are being blessed to share the same Good News with others in need. In mobilization, we are blessed to encourage others to participate in the Kingdom work of making disciples who make disciples.
