People that are effective in ministry after shifting from a marketplace career are sometimes asked, “To what do you attribute your success?” The answer that comes back is most often a reference to their connectedness to the Lord. One responded, “For me it is, 1) Bible, 2) Bible, and 3) Bible.”
Joshua wrote of the Bible, “Study this book of instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:8-9
Thos who neglect the Lord are in for disappointment. It was Pharaoh that mused, “Who is the Lord that I should obey Him?” Ten plagues later, and with the loss of his son and his army, he learned who the Lord was.
Edom boasted, “The lands of Israel and Judah will be ours. We will take possession of them. What do we care that the LORD is there!” Ezekiel 35:10
“The Lord is there” became the name of the place and a strong defense. The Lord is a force. They were destroyed. Will you make “the Lord is there” the name of the place where you dwell? It could start with a prayer like, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
If the presence of God is in you, you will draw the world in. If the presence of God is not in you, the world will draw you out.* Serving the Lord is a powerful way to be motivated to spend time with Him and feel His pleasure.
