Wisdom: God’s World, God’s Way

Skillful living: Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser.

There is a remarkable verse at the beginning of Proverbs: Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. (v1:5)

Let’s look at why this wisdom book can make such an audacious claim by outlining the book.

Chapters 1-9 How to Live Skillfully.
Chapters 10-28 Avoid Foolishness
Chapters 30-31 Put God first

Knowledge is information gained through experience and training, whereas wisdom is the ability to proactively discern what is true, right and lasting. Creativity is knowledge and wisdom applied for a useful result. Righteousness, that is, the Lord, makes a path for our steps. Ps 85:13 We are to be stepping, that is, proactively reaching for useful results by faith, relying on the Holy Spirit within us.

The Lord is so eager to bless that, given any excuse, He will do so. The eyes of the LORD are always on the alert, searching the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. 2 Chronicles 16:9

“Wisdom is the power to see, and the inclination to choose, the best and highest goal, together with the surest means of attaining it.” ― J.I. Packer, Knowing God
