Grace Journey

The final scene in Philippians is like the end of a movie. At the end of chapter 4 the screen goes dark and names roll up. Normally it is time to tune out. But wait! This is important!

The final scene in Philippians 4 is like the end of a movie. Near the end of this last chapter, the screen goes dark and names roll up. Normally it is time to tune out. But wait! This is important! Look at the conclusion:

Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me greet you. v. 21
All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar’s household. v. 22
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. v. 23

These greetings include you. God sees you as his child, forgiven, a saint. Verse 22 is interesting as it hints of an effective prison ministry. Paul is content and lets his light shine in the midst of disappointment and darkness. The diamond in his life—and in your life—is the grace, mercy and peace that shine for others to see.

Paul’s letter to Philippi begins with grace; “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Phil 1:2) And then he ends his letter with grace. Our walk with the Lord is a story of grace.

Who could be in your list of brothers and sisters who will greet you in the halls of eternity? To whom has God’s grace been poured out because of you? One way to enhance the impact of your life is to continue your journey by exploring how you might make a difference among the nations—short-term, long-term, at home or abroad.
