Assignment Description | We have several roles to fill: • Art teacher for PK-Gr8 and 1-2 high school classes • Music teacher for PK-Gr8 and Gr5-12 Instrumental Band Qualifications: • Committed Christian • Valid teaching certification in relevant discipline • Minimum student teaching experience • English language proficiency • Ability to integrate the Bible into lesson material • Computer literacy Description Teachers are the heart of the International Academy of Suriname and are responsible for the direct instruction of students (their primary duty), as well as planning instruction and setting goals; implementing curriculum; clearly and timely communicating standards, achievements and deficiencies to students and parents; teaching good study habits; monitoring and assessing academic progress; working with students, specialists, parents and administrators to develop individual education plans, independent study programs and academic remediation processes when necessary; maintaining complete and accurate student academic and disciplinary records; maintaining appropriate levels of textbooks, instructional materials and equipment; maintaining safe and orderly classrooms; maintaining and improving their own professional knowledge and skills; following the letter and the spirit of the approved policies and directives from the Director/Principal; cooperating with the Director/Principal, all other employees, classroom assistants, parents and community members in their common endeavour to educate Academy students; setting an example of intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, self-motivation and self-discipline for students; and modelling competence, honesty, personal responsibility and respect for others in every aspect of the job. |

Job Advertisement | The International Academy of Suriname is a modern Pre-Kindergarten to grade 12 school that is Christian in philosophy and education, providing an American-style education in English. Students are primarily from the expatriate community and represent many different cultures and religions. Situated in the capital city of Paramaribo, IAS employs about 35 people including faculty to serve the approximately 125 students who attend. The school is proud of its gymnasium and boasts of the largest English-language library in the country. Suriname is located on the northeast coast of South America about 5 degrees north of the equator. Teachers will be selected from among those applicants who agree with the Statement of Faith of the Academy and who convey a close relationship with Jesus Christ. A calling to missions is essential. Successful applicants will ideally come through an evangelical mission organization, preferably BCM International (www.bcmintl.org) and will hold appropriate teaching credentials which may include the Association of Christian Schools International (www.acsi.org). Assistance is provided in this regard. Teachers are provided with a salary, accommodation, paid utilities, paid vacation, transportation to and from Suriname, insurance, internet, visa assistance, professional membership in NEXUS, and professional development.
